Glory and Frankie were on their way to the pool when Frankie told Glory a secret he had heard from his dad. The pool was going to close soon. Glory was curious of why they would close during the hottest time of the year, twelve days before the 4th of July? -
Laura comes to town
After swimming, Glory headed to the library where she found someone who did not look like she was from around. She wore a long braid down her back and black socks with heavy sandals. Nobody wore black socks in the summer. Mrs. Bloom introduced her, her name was Laura Lampert -
Closed
Glory heads to the pool, and it is officially closed to keep colored people and yankees out of it. -
Going to Tupelo
Jesslyn sneaks off to Tupelo with her friend Robbie to see where Elvis grew up. Glory knows that Jesslyn lied to their dad, saying she was going shopping in Memphis to get batons for her friend's party, so she snuck in Robbie's back seat and hid under an itchy blanket, listening to them talk. -
Letter to the Tribune
Glory writes a letter to the newspaper, telling them how mad she is that the pool is closed. -
Frankie's Trick
Glory and Jesslyn were so happy after seeing the pool was opening, until they found out that Frankie pulled a prank on them. He tricked them into thinking the pool was going to open for the Fourth of July. -
Mrs. Simpson and the Letter
After church, Glory's family was invited to dinner at Mrs. Simpson's house. When after a while, Mrs. Simpson brought up the letter to the editors of the newspaper, and Glory worried that she would get her father into trouble, but it turns out that he was very proud of Glory. -
The Pool Break In
There was a break in at the pool where somebody messed with the lockers and stole candy from the snack bar. Frankie said that it was Laura and her friends, but Glory didn't believe him. -

July 4th
It is the Fourth of July, Glory's birthday. Laura, Jesslyn, Robbie, and Glory sit on a blanket and whatch the parade. Glory gets a charm bracelet from Jesslyn, and a necklace from Robbie during the parade. -
The Library Party
There was a party at the library and everyone who was a member of the library or helped with the Fourth of July parade was invited. -
