    Alexander the Great's conquests
    Born in 356 BCE, Alexander the Great would inherit the Kingdom of Macedonia at the age of 20. From then, until his death at the age of 32 in 323 BCE, Alexander would conquer land stretching from the Mediterranean to India. This vast empire would help the spread of culture and religion from the East to the West. Alexander also promoted trade, including bringing more silk (a hot commodity in Europe) from China.

    First photo ever taken by a camera
    The first photograph ever taken by a camera was shot in 1826 by Joseph Niepce. Phones and cameras today allow us to share things instantly with the push of a button. While nearly 200 years ago you weren't able to share your photo with people halfway around the world in a matter of seconds, this was the beginning what we are able to do today. People can now see things with their own eyes an event that happened without having to look at a drawing or sketching.

    The Berlin Conference of 1884-85 / The Scramble for Africa
    The Berlin Conference of 1884-85 ultimately led to what is known as 'the Scramble for Africa'. Major European powers took control of all but two African Countries (Liberia & Ethiopia) in order to take resources and promote their beliefs culture during the late 1800s and the early 1900s. And while all of these countries are now free, many still speak the language of the countries that colonized them and are still feeling the effects nearly 50 years after.

    Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)
    Known around the world, FIFA is the standard of soccer (futbol). The FIFA World Cup (WC) happens every four years (last in 2014) where the best-of-the-best countries compete for gold. While soccer has been a part of many cultures for a long time already, FIFA has helped to spread the game around the world; from hosting the WC, to creating video games. The 2010 WC in South Africa captured the attention of millions of Americans, and countless worldwide, and the 2014 WC only amplified soccer.

    The founding of McDonald's
    From large cities to small towns with populations of a few dozen, there is hardly anywhere you can go without being within a short drive to a McDonald's. Founded in 1940, McDonald's quickly exploded into the national fast food chain it is today. Many fast food chains have since followed in the expanding of their own businesses. McDonald's has expanded from one store in San Bernadino, California, in 1940 to nearly 37,000 in 2017. Because of this, cheap food is now available to masses in minutes.

    One of the first social media websites to become a smash hit and turn into what is now basically a cult-icon, Myspace launched in 2003. Like Facebook, Myspace allowed people to connect with friends and family from across states, countries, and the world. You were able to share posts, ideas, comments, music, photos, and relationship statuses with the click of a button. All of these things can be seen in social media apps today; ranging from Facebook to LinkedIn, and Instagram to Snapchat.
