    Paleo
    Paleo indians existed 12,000 years ago.These people moved from place to place following their food source.They hunted large-game animals and used large spear heads called the Colvis point.The spears were made to remove easily from the animal.Paleo indians hunted mammoths, groundsloths, sabortoothtigers, and bison.they had no form of farming, religion, or trade.

    Archaic
    Archaic indians still followed their food source, but migrated from season to season following a pattern.These people lived in caves, pithouses, and some made homes out of rock. They hunted small-game animals. Their spears were thinner, smaller, and more pointed. These people hunted fish, deer, turkey, bear, oysters, and shell fish. They also gathered nuts and berries. There was some trade, but still no form of religion.

    Woodland
    They lived in an area for long periods of time.They started to form tribes and villages.These people began experimenting with farming.They experimented farming sunflowers,squash,gourds,beans,and maize.They alsohunted small game animals.Had made more advanced pottery.Hunted with bow and arrow.Had some organized trade between groups.They have began religous thinking.They started burying their dead in religous mounds.

    mississipian periodWere the most advanced and first true civilization. Had large villages and cities. Were in contact with Europeans and theres evidence of governmen(Chiefdom). The first to live off of agriculture . They farmed corn,beans,and squash. They also hunted smaller game animals. They had the most advanced bow and arrow and pottery. They also had statues ,jewelry,and some advanced stone tools. Have or had most advanced system of trade. Had more advanced religion,they built temple mounds.

    Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe. Yamacraw Bluff is where he fonded georgia, but yamacraw indians lived ther. He talked to the chief Tomochichi to convince him to build a town in Yamacraw. Tomochichi couldnt speak english so he had an enterpreter Mary Musgrove . She is half indian half scottish. At first Tomochichi refused the ofer , but Oglethorpe said the englishwould be friendly,trade,and will try to educate your children. Then Tomochichi agreed to cede the land Oglethorpe needed.

    1996 Olympic Games

    olympic games 1996The olympic games were hosted by Atlanta.The olympics was an event that was the largest undertaking in the citys history. Preperations for the olympics took six years after awarding the bid of Atlanta and estimated economic impact on the city at least $5.14 billion. In the process Atlanta changed, new sport venues built, parking space, sidewalks ans streets improved, and housing patterns altered. The olympics lasted seventeen days , more than two million visitors came to watch.

    De Soto
    In 1539 he left Cuba,Havana. Then in 1540 De Soto came to Georgia to search for gold and treasure. In search for gold he and his soldiers killed over thousands of native americans in the battle. Some of the native americans died from European diseases the explorers brought with them. Their imune system wasnt used to the diseases. More than one half of native americans died. De Sotos march through georgia changed the lives of native americans forever. Sotos expodition into North america failed.

    Georgia was formed by the charter of 1732. The charter was signed by king george the second,granting the formation of the new colony. The charter was signed in june 1732. The charter was a document that laid out the rules and laws of the new colony. For example, catholics, slaves, and lawyers were not allowed in the new colony. Also, you couldnt drink rum or any kind of alcohol.
  • The Salzburgers Arrive

    The Salzburgers Arrive
    The salzburgers arrived on march 12,1734. They came to georgia because they were exiled from their home, because theywere protestants.King George 2nd invited them to georgia to escape the Catholic church. The Salzburgers formed the city of Ebenezer, but left because the location was bad. Then, they formed New Ebenezer and it was successful. They also had made the first and oldest churches in georgia.

    The Highland Scotts arrive
    The Highland Scotts arrived in georgia January 10,1736, from Scotland. They were recruted by James Oglethorpe to defend the colony of georgia. Oglethorpe recruted them to fight the spanish or protect georgia from the spanish. The highland Scotts were tough,fearless,warriors, and they loved to fight. They were not afraid of the spanish for example, they stated they would beat the spanish out their fort . The highlands settled on the Altamaha and formed the city of Derin.
  • John Reynolds

    John ReynoldsHe was the first royal governoer. He had started the concept of self government. The people all loved him until hegot conflict with the legislature and sent them home. He ran the colony on his own from then. The people were furious so , they complained and wrote letters to the king . After a while the king replaced him with a second royal governor.
  • Henry Ellis

    Henry EllisHe was the second royal governor . Ellis replaced John Reynolds as royal governor. Ellis taught Georgians how to self govern themselves. He sponsored legislation that divided the province into eight panishes. Ellis also cultivated the friendship of the heads of the creek nation. Ellis had been forced to leave Georgia because of poor health.
  • James Wright

    James Wright James Wright was the third and the last royal governor. Wright was a popular and able administrator and servant of the crown. He played a key role in retarding the flame of revolution in Georgia long after it flared violently in every other colony. He purchased eleven pantations, encompanising more than 25,000 acres, and more than 500 slaves.
  • Austin Dabney

    Austin Dabney
    Austin Dabney was a slave who became a private milita and fought Britian in the revolutionary war.He was the only african american to be granted land for his bravery and one of the few to recieve a federal military pension.Ayrock sent Dabney to the milita to substitute for him.He served Elijah Clarke,he was the only black soldier in the Battle.While fighting he was wounded,Giles Harris a white soldier took him to his home and cared for him.Dabney decide to work for the Harris family.

    During the American revolution several insidents occurred along kettle creek banks.The most important event took place on Febuary 14,1779 when 600 americans encamped in a bend of the creek.They were following a trail nearby Quaker on the route to August.James Boyd was the leader of this exposition.Andrew pickens of South California,John Dooly, and Elijah Clarke were preparing to attack Boydc camp at Kettle Creek.Pickens led 200 men on the rocky hill of Kettle Creek,while they attacked and won.

Uga was established before the city of Athens. New people moved to georgia just to attend Uga. This increased population and increased a smarter population.`

Georgia's first constitutional convention met and produced the constitution, known as the constitution of 1777. Other states also chose this method to adopt new constitutions.

    Delegates attended a convention in Agusta. The delegates voted unanimously to ratify the new us constitution. The new us constitution was approved on september 17,1787. This made georgia the fourth state to ratify the constitution.

Louis made the capital city to keep a centralized location for western expansion. The legislature was furious. The legislature in ''upcountry'' demanded the capital to move to a story centralized based on the population

    Jimmy Carter was the only Georgian elected president of the united states. He held office for one term 1977-81. His public service included stint in the U.S. Navy, two senate terms in the General Assembly, and one term as governor (1977-75). He was defeated in presidential election of 1980. He also founded the carter center, it was a nonpartisan public center in Atlana.

    Andrew youngs life work as a politition, human rights activist , and buisness man has been in great measure responsible for Atlantas reputation as an international city. Young was the first african american representative of congress. When he was a civil rights activist he served with Martin Luther King Jr. He was the second african american elected mayor of Atlanta. When he was mayor he helped to bring the 1996 Olympic Games to Atlanta.

    The civil rights movement in South America was the most significant and successful social movements in the modern worlds. Blacks formed part of this movement for full civil rights and wider national struggle for racial equality. Black activists protested white supremacy from legal challenges and mass demonstrations to strikes and self defense. The georgians were effectively denied the vote, segregated in most areas of daily life, subject to persistant discrimination and often violence.

    Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter were the first African American students to enter in the university of Georgia. Many students didn't welcome them kindly. There were many protests that took place when they fist went to UGA. Through all that, they both graduated and lead successful careers.

    The Albany movement was organized by the civil rights organizations to bring attention to Albany. Albany had many segregated facilities and a large population of African americans. Martin Luther King and other organizations staged on non-violent protests in segregated areas. Protesters were arrested and the media focused on the town. Albany eventually integrated the facilities.

    Measures by the civil rights activists were successful, including the march on Washington. When president Lyndon passed the civil rights act it interigated all facilities. It inerigated hotels, waiting rooms, resturants, and theaters. This was the most aggressive civil rights law in the united states history.
  • Maynard Jackson elected Mayor

    Maynard Jackson elected Mayor
    Maynard Jackson was elected mayor of Atlanta in 1976. Maynard was the first african american to serve as mayor of a major southern city. Jackson served for eight years and returned for third term in 1990, following the mayorship of Andrew Young. As a result of affirmative action programs by Jackson in his first two terms, city business going to minority firms roe dramatically. Before and during his third term, he worked closely with young and Bill Payne to bring the Olympics to Atlanta.
  • Lester Maddox

    Lester Maddox
    He was a segregationist and the owner of a restaurant . Maddox would chase after African americans out of his restaurant with axe handles. He closed the restaurant after the civil rights act was passed. He became governer in 1967. While he was governor he appointed most African americans positions as in state offices and work with prion reforms.
