Khan was born in north central Mongolia. His birth name was "Temujin". He was born with blood clot in his hand, a Mongol folklore sign that he was destined to be leader.

Khan first married at age 16. He married Borte, cementing alligiance between the Konkirat tribe and his own. He married many times throughout his life.

Shortly after Khan's first marraige, his wife was kidnapped. She was captured by the Merkit tribe and given to the cheiftain as a wife. Khan was able to rescue her and, shortly after, had his first child.

After escaping enslavement, Khan began his slow rise to power at the age of 20. He did this by building up an army of 20,000 and destroyed many traditional tribes. In doing this, he united Mongol tribes under his rule.

After rising to power, Khan began his conquest for an empire. In 1206, Khan defeated the Naiman tribe. This gave Khan control of Eastern and Central Mongolia.

Khan began major conquests after building up an army of 80,000. Khan took over Xi Xia, the Ji Dynasty, parts of the Muslim world, etc. He led a highly feared army.

Genghis Khan died soon after submission of Xi Xia. He died of unknown reasons. He was buried near his birth place, by the Onon River and Khentii Mountains.
