A police raid on the Stonewall Inn led to a series of riots which culminated into the start of the gay rights movement. Demonstrations took place as people encouraged others to come out. Parades commerating the stonewall incident now happen anually.

As of now, 14 states have leagalized gay marriage: California, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts,New Jersey, Delaware, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine, Maryland, and Washington. D.C. has also legalized gay marriage.
