Gandhi live in South Africa. He experience racism, segregation and discrimination. For example, he is kicked out of a 1st class train because he is not white. Gandhi organises peaceful protest . The South Africa government ask all the non white to carry a passbook. Gandhi tell the people to not cooperate. The philosophy of nonviolence and noncooperation is called Satyagraha. Gandhi goes to prison to organise the protest and the non cooperation.

Gandhi returns to India. He joins the National Congress. The National congress wants the independence of India. It means the end of British rule in India.

India is independent but India is divided between India and Pakistan. This is called Partition. India is suppose to be the country for the Hindus and Pakistan is suppose to be the country for the muslims. Gandhi is happy for the independence but sad for the partition. He wants muslims and hindus to live together in peace.

Gandhi organizes peaceful protest against the partition. He also went on hunger strike against the violence between Hindus and Muslims. He murdered by a Hindu who wanted the partition of India.
