    Battle of Fort Sumter
    Fought in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The first shots of the civil war were fought here. It the beginning of the civil war. President Lincoln sent his men down to the fort on boat to resupply the fort, when the South attacked. Nobody was killed at the fort.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    Battle of Bull Run
    Was fought in Manassas, Virginia along a river called Bull Run. The Union forces had 35,000 men, while the Confederate forces had 20,000 men. The Union started the attack on the Southerners, aiming for their left flank. The Confederates had more reinforcements as the war went on. The Union lost due to their lack of reinforcements.

    It was fought in Sharpsburg, Maryland. Some of this battle was fought in a cornfield. This was the bloodiest battle in the civil war. There was an estimate of 23,000 dead, wounded, or missing soldiers. The Union forces allowed the Confederates to retreat.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    The news was given in the middle of the war. The proclamation was given to free all people help as slaves. The South was not happy about this. 3.5 million enslaved African Americans were set free because of this. The address was only issued to the rebellious states so they wouldn't loose their original states that still owned slaves.
  • Battle of Chancelorville

    Battle of Chancelorville
    It was Fought in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It lasted from April 30th to May 6th. It is known to be Confederate General Robert E. Lee's greatest victory during the Civil War. "Stonewall" Jackson was killed from friendly fire during this particular battle. 130,000 Union soldiers were killed in this battle.

    Abraham Lincoln gave his speech in the Gettysburg cemetery in Virginia. He was asked it give brief remarks, which took two minutes. The other speaker was a famous actor by the name of Edward Everett. His speech was two hours long. Abraham said that his words would not be remembered, but we all know that is incorrect.
