    In 1917 The Wartime Elections Act and Military Voters Act was the first law passed that gave all British and aboriginal men and women a option to receive the vote, if you or a close relative has been in the arm forces they would be allowed to vote. Even if you were not a land owner you could participate in voting. At the first election after that law was passed around 2000 women who had been in the arm forces got to be the first Canadian women to vote.

    Women’s first biggest Canadian accomplishment was getting the right to vote. Women could vote for a short time if they were land owners, until a law was passed, its said clearly British males were the only people that were able to vote. That began a public out cry of discrimination from women. When the military voters act was passed many women voted. The official date the women and men had the same rights when it came to voting was 1918.

    Chinese Canadians has an extremely hard time with racisms especially in provinces like British Colombia where a lot of Asians chose to live. Being able to vote was out of the question. After world war two, Chinese Canadians regained there rights and were able to vote in 1947.

    You would think that the real Canadian natives would be able to vote right off the bat, but they were the last people who earned the right to vote. The only way they could vote was if they gave up there treaty status. The first natives that could vote were the Inuit’s in 1948. When the law was passed that aboriginals could vote if they had participated in the arm forces there was a great deal of them who started voting. Officially aboriginals could vote in 1960.

    It was thought that 18 year olds were not mature enough to vote even though the military age to go off to war was 17. It was decided that if you are mature enough to shoot a gun, you’re mature enough to vote. The voting age was then lowered from 21 to 18 in 1970.
