When Washington learned of the surrender of Fort Duquesne, he went to defend it. On the way, he built a small fort called Fort Necessity. French forces attacked by surprise and forced Washington to surrender.

The British were marching toward Fort Duquesne. When the French had hid behind trees, and were defending. Eventually Braddock got killed in the battle that followed, and the surviving British retreated.
