No involuntary slavery or labor unless convicted of a crime. -
14th Amendment
Anyone that is a legal citizen of the united states can not be deprived of life,liberty or the pursuit of happiness. -
Sharecropping/tenant Farming
Share cropping is a form of farming that a land owner allows someone to farm their land for a share of the crops. -
15th Amendment
No legal U.S citizen shall be deprived of their right to vote. -
Jim Crow Laws
Laws saying that blacks and whites must be seperate whether it is bathrooms or fountains. -
Lynching
Killing someone for a crime without a legal trial. -
Plessy vs. Ferguson
State of Louisiana had a law that separated people on bus cars by skin color.Adolph Plessy who was only 1/8th African American sat on the white bus car refused to move and was arrested. Which was violation of 13th and 14th amendment.It was decided that it was constitutional under the separate but equal doctorine. -
19th Amendment
Everyone should be allowed to vote both men and women. -
20th Amendment
Decides who takes over if president dies and when terms begin and end. -

Sets standard for the way houses are built And qualification for loans. -

In regards to segregation of public schools.Kids were being denied admittance into schools based on skin color.Because things had to be equal the students were granted admittance into these schools due to better facilities. -

The end of seperation by skin color. -

Governor of Arkansas at the time.Against desegregation in schools. Known for standing up against desegregation in 1957 -
Rosa Parks
Worker for Naacp.Most known for being arrested for not giving up seat for white person. Civil rights activist. -
Montgomery Bus boycotts
Began 4 days after the arrest of Rosa Parks. African American people did whatever they could to not use busses to strike back against the Busses. -
Civil Rights act of 1957
Banned tests and other things to allow everyone to vote. -
Nonviolent Protest
Protest involving no violence what so ever. Such as sit ins no one is harmed and point is made. -
Sit-Ins
Four African american college students were refused service at a whites only lunch counter.When refused they sat there quietly each day coming in and sitting thus causing one large sit in that started sit ins. -

Favors people who have experienced discrimination and unequal pay. -

Civil rights activist that co-founded National Farm Workers Association. -

Womens rights activist. Wrote book that people claim sparking second wave of american feminism. -

Most known civil rights activist. Led peaceful protests and gatherings later assassinated. Most Known for his I have a dream speech -

U.S supreme court justice and civil rights activist. Most known for guiding the process of getting rid of jim crow laws and becoming first black supreme court justice. -
26th Amendment
Made legal voting age 18 yrs old. -
Title 9
Prevents sex discrimination for anything under any education program or anything getting financial assistance from federal government. -
George Wallace
Former governor of Alabama and U.S presidential candidate.Remembered as a pro segregationist and for his quote "Segregation now,segregation tomorrow,segregation forever".
