Charlie meets Algernon for the first time ever. He said, " "Later some men in white coats took me to a difernt part of the hospitil and gave me a game to play. It was like a race with a white mouse. They called the mouse Algernon. Algernon was in a box with a lot of twists and turns with all kinds of walls and they gave me a pencil and a paper with lines and lots of boxes." (373) -

"Their going to use me!" He said "I'm so exicted I can hardly write." (373) -
March 10 1965
" I asked Dr. Stauss if Ill beat Algernon in the race after the operashun and he said maybe. If the operashun works Ill show that mouse I can be as smart as he is. Maybe smarter." (375) You continue to see how working and motivated Charlie is. -
March 19 1965
Charlie starts to get discouraged, " Nothing is happening. I had lots of tests with different kinds of races with Algernon. I hate that mouse... Thse inkowblots are stupid. And those pictures are stupid too...I thot Dr Staruss was my frend but he dont help me.. Miss Kinnian dint come to see me. I think writing these progress reports are stupid too."(376) -
April 6, 1965
"I beat Algermon!"(379), he said. Charlie is getting smarter, he starts to figure things out around him and quickly gets smarter, and uses bigger words. -
April 20 1965
Charlie loses the trust for his coworkers; " It's a funny thing I never knew that Joe and Frank and the others liked to have me around all the time to make fun of me.
Now I know what is means when they say "to pull a Charlie Gordon.'

Charlie is getting smater and devoloping feelings for Miss Kinnian;" I got up the nerve today to ask Miss Kinnian to have dinner wth me tomorrow night to celebrate my bonus." (387) -

'I've quit my job with Donnegan's Plastic Box Company. My Donnegan insisted that it would be better for all the concerned if I left. What did I do to make them all hate me so much?" (388) -

" I find that I don't communicate with people much any more. Thank God for books and music and thing I can think about." (390-391)Charlie is changing. -

Charlie see's another mentally retarted boy, and it shocks him " I felt sick inside... They were laughing at him because he was mentally retarded.
And I had been laughing at him too." (391) -
May 23, 1965
"It happened today. Algernon bit me. I visited the lab to see him as I do occasionally, and when I took him out of his cage, he snapped at my hand. I put him back and watched him for a while. He was unusually disturbed and vicious." (393) -

"i must ot become emotional. The facts and the results of my experiments are clear, and the more sensational aspects of my own rapid climb cannot onscure the fact that the trippling of intelligence by the surgical technique developed by Drs. Charlie says his goodbyes "Good-by Miss Kinnian and Dr Strauss and evrybody. And P.S. please tell Dr Nemur not to be such a grouch when pepul laff at him and he would have more friends. Its easy to make frends if you let pepul laff at you. Im going to have lots of friends where I go.
P.P.S. Please if you get a chanse put some flowers of Algernons grave in the bak yard..."
