The lander and rover had been launched in December of 1996. It's mission once on Mars was to take photographs of the surface, study to rock composition, and collect information about the elements. My family took a trip to Steamboat Springs Colorado for a skiing trip. It snowed 48 inches for the week we were there! It was an awesome way to spend Christmas!
