First two days of vacation

  • Kyle in the airport in Montreal

Kyle in the airport in Montreal
As we were about to board the plane bound for Orlando, Kyle was excited though not thrilled at the prospect of having to sit for three and a half hours in the plane. Happiness level about a 5.
  • On our way

    On our way
After a brief delay we were in the air and on our way to Florida. The excitement was brewing until the kids realized the plane had no in flight movies. Thankfully iPods had been packed keeping complaints to a minimum. Happiness level amongst the kids steady at about a 5.
  • Touch down in Orlando

    Touch down in Orlando
We arrived in Orlando slightly behind schedule, a harbinger of what was to come. Riding the tram from the gate to the baggage claim terminal, the kids were getting excited. Happiness level up to about 7.
  • Unhappy at MCO

    Unhappy at MCO
Thanks to airport construction, it took well over an hour for baggage to start arriving. Two very unhappy campers at the airport. Happiness level about 1.

Orlando 2014 - the first two days

This timeline captures a few of the highlights from the first two days of our 2014 Orlando vacation from Kyle and Eeva, measuring their level of happiness at various points.
  • First time on the Incredible Hulk

First time on the Incredible Hulk
Kyle is extremely happy after completing his first ride on the Incredible Hulk Coaster. Following some slight hesitation from one of the cast members regarding whether he was tall enough to ride, he was allowed to go on what has now been deemed his second favourite ride. Happiness level 10.
  • At the hotel

    At the hotel
Affter having arrived past midnght thanks to the luggage snafu, the kids were nonetheless up bright and early on the 24th ready to hit the park. Happiness level 6.
  • Eeva is tall enough!

    Eeva is tall enough!
Like Kyle on the Hulk ride, Eeva is happy to finally be able to go on Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls. She is unaware of the soaking awaiting her. Happiness level 10.
  • Well, we are already soaked anyway...

Well, we are already soaked anyway...
After riding Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls twice and already being compleletely soaked it was time to venture onto the Popeye water ride, where any inch on you that may have remained dry somehow would now be soaked. Getting soaked in the sun while everyone else is freezing at home equals two happy kids Happiness level 10.
  • Welcome to Springfield, USA

    Welcome to Springfield, USA
The newly expanded Simpsons area in Universal Studios did a great job making you feel like you are in the show. Despte only having ever seen bits of the show, the Simpsons ride was a big hit, requiring a second go around. Is 7 and 9 too young for the crude humour of the Simpsons? Happiness level 10.
  • Dr. Seuss is for babies

    Dr. Seuss is for babies
The lure of the thrill rides can begin young. The taste of being tall enough to go on rides previously forbidden resulting in "tamer" rides being "a waste of time" and "for babies". Sorry Dr. Seuss! Happiness level with this ride, a 4.
  • A fine way to end the evening.

A fine way to end the evening.
Our stay at Universal Studios complete, we headed for a meal at Lee and Rick's Oyster Bar where Kyle could partake in one of his favourite foods - raw oysters. With a bucket of delicious oysters being shucked in front of us, it was easy to see why this dive bar has been a local favourite for more than 50 years. Happiness level back up to a 10. And both happy to be headed to Disney World!
