    The islanders started metalworking, producing pottery and salt and manifacturing leather and cloth.
  • Period: 700 BCE to 100 BCE

    Arrival and settlement of the Celts

    They were the first fishermen in the area and introduced the iron plough.
    They spoke Welsh and Gaelic.
    Society: women were almost equal to men.
    Religion: Druids were the Celts' priests. They were also important in justice, education and medicine; they worshipped natural elements, believed in immortality and trasmigration of the soul.

    Roman period

    The Romans built paved roads for military and commercial purpose. They brought their culture, Christianity and Latin language in Britain.
