President Andrew Jackson

Significant Event: Indian Removal Act-
Passed by Congress under President Jackson, this Act forced Native Americans to move West of the Mississippi resulting in thousands of deaths. Otherwise known as the " Trial of Tears". -
President Martin Van Buren

Significant Event: Helped Stop Expansion of Slavery
He "Blocked the annexation of Texas because it assuredly would add to slave territory--and it might bring war with Mexico". -
President William Henry Harrison

Significant Event: 1st president to die in office.
After less than a month in office, President Harrison contracted pnumonia and died. -
President John Tyler

This Bill allowed settlers to claim up to 160 acres of land before it was offered up publicly for sale, and later pay $1.25 an acre for it. -
President James K. Polk

After repeatedly winning battles against Mexico, they ceded New Mexico and Califonia for $15,000,000 vastly expanding U.S territory. -
President Zachary Taylor

Significant Event: Worked to Create Equality
Although President Taylor was the 2nd president to die in office he had plans to stop the expansion of slave states even though he was a slave owner himself. -
President Millard Fillmore
Years in office: 3 (1850-1853)
Political Party: Whig Party
Significant Event: Despite having an anti-slavery stance, President Filmore supported the 1850 compromise. Which allowed slavery in Utah and New Mexico. -
President Franklin Pierce

Significant Event: Although his industrial thinking pertaining to building a railroad did not materialize he was able to expand the United States territory by aquiring Southern Arizona and Southern New Mexico for $10,000,000. -
President James Buchanan

Significant Event: Although this was a rough transition period for President Buchanan pertaining to the disbursement of slave and slave free territory, he ultimately failed to keep parties happy ultimately resulting in the downfall of the Whigs and the birth of the Republicans.
