    The Equal pay act of 1963 is a United States fedeal law amending the fair labour standards act aimed at abolishing wage based on sex. It was signed byJohn F.Kennedy on June, 10 1963.
  • National Organisation for Women (NOW)

    Tweenty eight women and among them Betty Friedan founded the National Organisation for Women (NOW) to function as a civil rights organisation for women. Betty Friedan became its first president. It ois the largest women's groups in the U.S and pursure its goals through extensive legislative lobbying, litigation and public demonstations.
  • Title IX

    The united states congress enacts a series of Educational amendements including Title IX which states that "no person in the U.S shall, on the basis of sex, be exclusded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity recieving federal financial assistance"
  • Phyllis Schlafly pointed out the amendment

    Physllis Schlafly publishes "what's wrong with Equal rights for women" launching the campaign opposing ratidication of the Equal Rights amendment. She pointed out that the amendment would eliminate the men-only draft requirement and women would be the subject to be force into military and weaken existing legal protections under divorce and marriage laws.
  • Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton

    The supreme court declares that the consitiution protects women's right to terminate an early preganancy, thus making abortion legal.

    The violence against women act funds services of rape and domestic violents, allows women to seek civil rights remedies for gender related crimes. The national organizationfor women called it "the greatest breakthrough in civil rights for women in nearly two decades."
  • Shannon Faulkner and The citadel

    Shannon Faulkner is the first woman to attend the citadel in its 152 year history. She sued the all-male, state supported school and was admitted under court order. After that the Citadels board voted to open its doors to woman.
