  • James Hutton.

    James Hutton.
    James hutton was a Naturalist, Geologist, Physician, Agriculturalist and Manufacturer, from Scotland who died on the 26th of March 1797. James Hutton is mainly known because he had a theory that the Earth was an organism in itself, which revolutionised the thought of the earth in that time.
    He is often known as the Godfather of modern Geology.
  • Erasmus Darwin

    Erasmus Darwin
    Erasmus Darwin was a British physician, Botanist, Natural Philosopher, Physiologist, Inventor and Poet. He was the grandfather of Charles Darwiin and died on the 18th of April 1802. Erasmus Darwin's biggest contribution to science was the Zoonomia. In the Zoonomia, he talks about many theories to do with Evolution, which later were proved to be correct, Natural Selection for example was something he talked about, which was the base for many other theories to be made on.

    Willima Paley's main occupation was a Philosopher, born in Peterborough, and died on the 25th of May, 1805. He was most commonly known for his Natural Theology, a type of Theology which talks about the existence of God and his Principles of Moral and Political Philosophy was one of the most influential philosophical texts in late Enlightenment Britain.

    Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet Chevalier de Lamark, was a soldier born in France, but is known for his amazing contributions to science, being a Naturalist, and his biggest contributions being the three books he wrote about evolution, and giving Biology a broader meaning, making the terms, chemistry, meteorology, geology, and botany-zoology.

    John Stevens Henslow, was an English Clergyman, Botanist and Geoligist. Most commonly known as the Tutor and friend of Charles Darwin, being one of the reasons Charles Darwin had such succesful work.

    Charles Lyell was a British Lawyer, and one of the top Geoligists of his time, best known for his Principles of Geology, which was the base of James Hutton's theory about the world being formed in the same process that it is today.

    Robert Chambers was a Scottish publisher, geologist, evolutionary thinker and author, and was a huge influence in science during the mid 19th century and was the anonymous author of Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation, which was so controversial during that time that the author (being himself) was not talked about until after his death.

    Charles Darwin was an english Naturalist and Geologist and died on the 19th of April 1882. His work is said to be the main reason for the level of knowledge with evolution that we have today. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors. Charles Darwin's book 'On the Origin of Species' is the foundation for the theory of evolution.

    Alfred Wallace was a British naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologist, and biologist. He is known best for making the Theory of Evolution, based on the work of Charles Darwin, He was the 19th century's leading expert on the distribution of animals species through biomes which is why he is sometimes called the father of Biogeography.
