    Laws
    The French National Convention declared that slavery in all French colonies in Haiti, be legal.This was the first act of guide line in Haiti. Laws keep society running. Without laws there would be numerous conflicts however, in this case the law caused many disputes. Laws are everywhere and it is important to follow them. They are supposed to create easy adjustments to changes in society. Laws are frequently being modified to create a better democracy.
  • Legislative Assembly

    Legislative Assembly
    France's Legislative Assembly votes to give full citizenship and equal rights to all the people of color. This act of allowing equality demonstrated a brighter society, where everyone can contribute and creates the opportunity to realize their potential.
  • Imperial Consitution

    Haitians gained numerous rights as equals. Some examples that the Constitution stated included; slavery is forever abolised, every law is the same for all, whether it punishes or protects, Empire is distributed into six military divisions, etc. The constituation invovled various accpects which includes declaration of empire, people, Ministers, Council of State, workship, and general dispositions.

    Civil Code
    A civil code was made, orderly collection of laws designed to carefully deal with the fundamental areas of the private law such as for dealing with business and lawsuits. This relates to a democracy and a democratic society because it is establishing rights and responsibilities not only for the society but for the government as well.

    The Domicican Republic declares it's independence from Haiti. This demonstrated the main purpose of government, which is to protect their rights and the power of government is mutual with members of community (the guiding norm of democracy)
  • First Autocratic Leader in Haiti

    First Autocratic Leader in Haiti
    Haiti was ruled by the Duvalier family, whom are better known as, Francois Duvalier and his son, Jean-Claude Duvalier. This was a period of brutal dictatorship has he held the control of most normal freedoms in Haiti. Francois Duvalier was known as the first most extreme autocratic leader as he had thousands killed and exhiled.
  • Constituational Changes

    Constituational Changes
    Duvalierists called a new presidential election where he was the only canidate. Duvalierists was only to remain president until 1963 so he decided to uphold a constitutonal prohibited re-eletion. The election was obviously and openly unfair as it was rigged; the official tally showed that the majority votes "yes' to another term for Duvalier. On June 14, 1964, a constituatonal referendum allowed Dualier to be "President-For-Life." If one complained it would result in punishment.

    Military Controlled Election result in the new placement of Leslie Manigat as President. This allowed citizens and/or voters to have several options to exercise their right to vote freely.

    Jean-Bertrand Aristide upholds a democratic elections for everyone in society. Allowed another opportunity for people to freely give their opinions without being forced. It also allows the community to participate and make a decision on how their lives may be changed.
  • Democratic Society

    Democratic Society
    The new President, Preval and a government was formed. Agriculture production, administrative reform,and economic modernization are annoced as the Government's priorities. This formed a better democractic society as government and people came together to better enchance eachothers homes and/or workplaces.
