  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was named after Predident Truman. The Doctrine stated it would help aid anti-communist countries under threat of stalin or other communist countries.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    After World war 2, all countries that faught in the war were in huge debt. Many people were dying of starvation and were unemploeeyed. Many failing countries went to communism. Because the U.S feared the domino theory they made the marshall plan. This was named after General George Marshall. The plan helped finance and help the Eauopean countries. This plan was susscessfull and made many countries stronger then before.
  • The creation of NATO

    The creation of NATO
    This North Atlantic Treaty Org. was created by the U.S, Canada, and a few of the west euopean countries (not communist) to provide ''security'' against the USSR. It started because many countries in Europe were being invaded by Stalin and was being reverted into communism. Economies were failing and the countries felt unsafe. So to that the u.s created the organization that meant aiding and helping countries that are against the soviets.
  • China becomes Communist

    China becomes Communist
    After WW2 ended, Mao Zing and Kai-Sheck went back to fighting each other. Mao Zing controlled north china and was for communism while Kai Sheck was for a democratic nation. The U.S helped Kai-Sheck become elected. Soon the Civil war ended- Communism won in China. Mao Zing ran away to thaiwan.
  • Detente

    Detente
    Towards the last decades of the Cold War, alliances between groups began to weaken. Some countries like france considered to pull themselves out of NATO, because they wanted relationships with eastern europe. Even the Warsaw Pact began to fall apart.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    WW2 caused Korea to split in half;the north was controlled by a communist Kim II Sung, while the south was controlled by the United States. North Korea then invaded south Korea with the help of soviet tanks. Because the U.S wanted to stop the domino effect of communism, they quickly aided south Korea. McAurthur and the U.S army fought North Korea and took back South Korea's Capitol Seoul. In 1953 a peacy treaty was signed. This ended the war but Korea was still divided into North and South.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    Creation of the Warsaw Pact
    This was a treaty between the Soviets and the Eastern European Communist countries. The Pact was created to help each other out and form a sort of alliance. The soviets wanted this creation to be more powerful than the U.S's NATO. Communist countries fell down and Germany reunited. These events ended the cold war which made the warsaw pact broke up.
  • The Vietnam War

    After WW2 Korea (Hi Chi Minh) wanted freedom from the French. Like Korea, Vientmam was split in half. North was communist and was suppported by the Soviets and China. Their leader was Ho Chi Minh.The south who was anti-communist was supported by the U.S.The U.S helped Ngo Dinh Diem to get elected for the South.The french ended up pulling out of the war because the north was too strong. The U.S then stepped in.The U.S lost the war making south surrender.EntireVietnam then turned into communism.
  • Launch of Sputnik

    Launch of Sputnik
    During the Cold war the U.S and the Soviet Union were not only fighting in war-but competing against the opympics and the space race. Both countries tried to be the first country to visit space- USSR was the first to launch a satelite to orbit earth. Although they were the first ever to visit space, The U.S was the first to visit the moon.
  • Nikita Khrushchev visits the USA

    Nikita Khrushchev visits the USA
    Nikita Khrushchev came to America during the Cold War. He and his wife went to Whashington DC and held several meeting with Presidents Dwight Eisenhower. Both agreed it was time to get to know each other more personally and to have a friendship instead of being enemies. The Cold war was over
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    The Bay of Pigs was an attempt for the U.S to overthrow the cuban Dictator Fidel Castro. The invasion was unsuccessfull. Cuba's army took out the exiles and it ended on April 19th of that year.
  • Berlin wall goes up

    After WW2 Germany was controlled by France, the united states, Great Britain and the Soveit Union. Germany was officially divided into two countries. West being controlled by the Allies and East controlled by the Soviets. In 1948 the soviets created a blockade that kept the west out.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    After the failure of Bay of Pigs, Fidel Castro wanted to defend his island. USSR also felt insecure about having less missles than the US. So The soveits braught nuclear weapons and missles to Cuba. Because of that, Kennedy made a blockade around Cuba. Khrushchev promised to remove the nukes out of cuba if the U.S promised to not invade Cuba. Khrushchev also asked the U.S to remove missles out of turkey (since it was near USSR) Kennedy promised to not invade Cuba and USSR removed the missles.
  • JFK is assasinated

    John F Kennedy played a huge role during the Cold War. Kennedy was killed in Texas. This is a huge deal because with or without him as president, things would be different today because of his decisions in the cold war.
  • Nixon Visits China

    Predident Nixon went to China mainly to improve relationships with communist countries. He had a meeting witth Premier Zhou Enlai. Both agreed to have open door trading poilicies which allow us to trade with each other. Today many things are made from china. This is because of this policy.

    In 1973 the small caribean island was given independence from Great Britain. A few years later (1979) Sir Eric Gairy tried to take back control over the country. Bishop (leader of country) built an air port for tourism. President Reagan thought this was a threat.U.S then braught in troops.

     German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall
    After World War 2 Germany was divided into many parts. On the East side it was communism. While the other side was controlled by the U.S. The berlin wall was built to divide the two sides. But in 1989 the Berlin wall was destroyed. Germany was f'inally reunited. The fall of the Berlin wall was the turning point to the end of the cold war.
  • Collapse of The soviets

    Collapse of The soviets
    Mikhail Gorbachev became a new presidents of the Soveit Union. He and President Reagan discussed ways to improve the countries relationship. In 1989 Mikhail and Presidents George Bush agreed to end the Cold War. In 1991 the soviet union broke up into 15 different countries.
