Events Leading up to the the American Revolution

    The French and Indian War

    A war Between the British and the French for what is known as the Ohio territory. The main reason why there was such high and so many taxes imposed on the colonist.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The king made a law that said that the colonist weren't allowed to go west past the Appalachian Mountains. He did this because he didn't want to spend more money or waste more soldiers to protect them from the Native Americans. The colonist didn't like this and they moved west anyway deliberately disobeying the kings proclamation.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    A tax set on foreign sugar or molasses. Doing so hoping to stop the colonist from smuggling. The colonist decided to just keep on doing it .
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    it required colonist to by special stamped paper products also decks of cards and dice. The colonist responded by creating a group called the Sons of Liberty, where they would harass stamp agents, and sometimes royal Governors.
  • Repeal of the Stamp Act

    Repeal of the Stamp Act
    Parliament decided to repeal the Stamp Act after lots of protest from the colonist. But Parliament made the Declaratory Act. To still show that parliament still had power and could tax them.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A day where the colonist were taunting and throwing stuff at the British soldiers. A shot rained out and the British soldiers open fired killing 5 people. It was labeled a massacre for propaganda reasons to make the British look even worse even though both sides were at fault and it wasn't really a massacre.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The reaction from the colonist when parliament put a tax on tea called the Tea Act. They decided to dress up as Native Americans and dumped millions of dollars in today's money worth of tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    Parliaments way of punishing the colonist for the Boston Tea Party. The Acts where all harsh, even taking away basic rights like the right to assemble. they closed down the harbor and put the town under Martial Law. The colonist went straight into action by meeting to talk about independence and they said if any British soldier was to use brutal force you have the right to fight back.
