    Ancient Greece

    Greece begins many different forms of government withing it's city states. The ANcient greece government begins in 5th century BC.

    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was important because it was the first set of rules that was imposed on a king of England by the people.It was the first idea of the king not doing a good job and so the nobles had to take measures into their own hands.
  • Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact was important because it was the first set or fules and laws set by the pilgrims. Without the Mayflower Compact, there could have been many problems and it could have cause havoc.
  • Thomas Hobbes

    Thomas Hobbes was important because his theory on social contract. He believed that government formed due to an agreement between the people. He also believed that people who didn't have government had lives that were "nasty", brutish and short. He also believed in the need for a monarch.
  • John Locke

    John Locke believed that government exists to serve the people and that the purpose of government was to protect natural rights which were life, liberty, and property. Some of his ideals which were written in his book, Two Treaties on Government were used to create the government that we use.
  • English Bill of Rights

    This document was important because it gave a guideline of the individual rights that people shiuld get and it also limited the power of monarchs.
  • Jean-Jacques Ruosseau

    He wrote a book called The Social Contract that told about his ideals on government. The book tells about his idea of how to establish a political community. His idea of how the government should only be freely formed by the people gave ideas of how we shaped our government.
  • Voltaire

    He is important because he believed in the absolute value of freedom of speech and that men were made equal, he said that people's virtue that makes a difference, not birth.
  • Baron de Montesquieu

    He is important because he proposed the idea of the seperation of powers. He created the idea of using a legislative, executive, and judicial branch of government that we use today.
  • Cesare Beccaria

    He was known for condemning the use of torture and the death penalty. He is important because we use his idea of not using torture and he is also important because he believed in criminal justice.
  • First Continental Congress

    The First continental congress was held to talk about the British's "intolerable acts". They were discussing the problems the British were giving them. This is important because the new colonies were coming together and discussing ideas.

    They came to discuss a way to tell the king about the grievences of the colonies. THis was important because during this convention, the people realized that they wanted to voice their grievences against the king.
  • Articles of confederation

    The Articles of confederation were important because it was America's first constitution and even though it was a weak form of government, it was a big step to creating a better form of government.
  • Declaration of independance

    Declaration of independance
    It was a document that said that America was free from the rule of England and that the America would become independant. This was important because America finally got to be independant and also because they were free to make their own government instead of listening to the king.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris showed that the revolutionary war was over. It was significant because it symbolized America's freedom from Britain. If their was never a Treaty of Paris, then we would have never had any freedom.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    Shay's Rebellion happened in the year 1786, there was no specific date. It was important because it showed that the farmers were getting taxed way higher than anyone in the colonies and so they rebelled. It showed that the form of government at the time wasn't stable and the people realized the government needed a change.
  • Philadelphia Convention

    This convention was important because the people talked about how weak the Articles of Confederation were and how they needed a change. It was held to make a more stronger form of government to help support it's people.

    Ancient Greece begins in 509 BC and ends in 49BC. The ROme government had a wierd mix of democratic and republic forms of government.
