Events Leading Up To The American Revolution

  • French and Indian War (1754-1763)

    French and Indian War (1754-1763)
    The French and Indian War happened when Britian and the Colonist fought against the French and Indians. They were fighting over land. The French and Indian War finally ended in 1763. Britian won the war but went into debt, so, Britian started to tax the colonists.
  • Proclaimation of 1763

    Proclaimation of 1763
    The Proclaimation of 1763 is when the Parliament, British law makers, passed a law that says colonist can't go west of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists were furious because they wanted more land and didn't think Britian had a right to pass that law.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act is when the Parliament passed a law that taxed all paper products such as newspapers. This actually was the very first tax for Britian. The colonists didn't agree, they thought they should only be taxed by their own goverment.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act happened when the Parliament passed a law that the colonists were forced to house British soilders and this angered the colonists, the redcoats or British soilders weren't to pleased either.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre started out as a mob of colonists gathering at the Customs House in Boston that would taunt the British soldiers who were guarding the building. But a British soldier thought he heard the word fire, then a gun was shot. No one knows who shot that gun but after that, guns were fired everywhere. 5 colonist ended up dieing and blacksmith Paul Revere made an engraving to show of the incident.

    The Parliament passed a law called the Tea Act, this law says that the colonist are taxed for tea that was bought from Britian. Of course, the colonist didn't like being taxed for their tea.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The colonists didn't like being taxed for tea, they did something about it. One group of men, known as the Sons of Liberty, went even further than any other colonist. On the night of December 16, the Sons of Liberty took the tea from the 3 tea ships, the Dartmouth, the Eleanor and the Beaver, and poured all of the tea, 90,000 pounds, into Boston Harbor.

    "The Intolerable Acts" (1765-1774)
    The Intolerable Acts are 5 laws that King George III. He did this to punish the colonist for dumping the tea into Boston Harbor.

    *The Quartering Act, March 24, 1765
    *The Administration of Justice Act, May 20, 1774
    *Massachusetts Goverment Act, May 20, 1774
    *The Quebec Act, May 20, 1774
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress happened when the deligates form all the colonies, except for Georgia, met in Philadelphia to discuss the "Intolerable Acts". The deligates signed a petition that is known as the Declaration of Independence and sent the signed petition to Britian.
