  • Albany Congress

    British government wanted the colonies to agree and cooperate in defending themselves against the french. They hoped to form an alliance with the Iroquois. This took place before the war in Albany New York.

    The French and Indian War

    French and Indian vs British and Colonists and Iroquois. Fighting over the Ohio River Valley in North America. British win the French and Indian war. French lost all of there land.
  • The Treaty Of Paris

    The British and France signed the treaty in Paris France, after losing Quebec they lost land along with much of its North American possessions. This lead to the French surrendering from the war.

    Pontiac's War

    Leader of the Ottawa Nation formed an alliance of Western Native Americans to fight the British. After the French and Indian war ended. They fought to keep their lands in the Appalachain mountian range.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The British Govornment issued the Proclamation to avoid any further wars with the Native Americans. It banned colonial settlement west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. The proclamation was ignored and proved impossible for the British to enforce.
  • The sugar act

    The British tried to impose new taxes on the colonies. this put a import tax on several products, making it a harsh punishment for smugglers. Parliament passed this law because British leaders believed the colonist should pay part of the debt.
  • Stamp Act

    Passed by parliament. This required that all colonist buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products and activities. Protest against the stamp act were widespread.
  • The Quartering act

    Parliament passed the Quartering Act to save money. This act required colonist to house British troops and provide them with food and other supplies. This law was passed a year after The sugar act. The colonist complained that parliament was violating their wrights.
  • Boston Massacre

    This massacre happened because a boycott against British hurt the manufacturers this made the troops furious. One night in Boston an angry crowd of workers and sailors surrounded a small group of soldiers and they shouted at the soldiers and threw rocks at them. This has caused a trigger to the soldiers so they had shot 5 and wounded 6.
  • The Tea Act

    In 1773 British parliament passed the Tea Act. It was intended to help the British East India company. Some colonist reacted angrily to the part of the act that gave the East India company a Monopoly on selling British tea in the colonies.The monopoly hurt British merchants, many of them sold Dutch tea that was smuggled into the colonies. Many of the colonial leaders argued that even though the price of tea was lowered, colonist still had to pay tax on the tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    In response to the Boston tea party, parliament passed four laws. These laws included, closing the port of Boston, increases the power of the royal governor, established the upper house of the Massachusetts legislature and strengthened the quartering act.
  • First Continental Congress

    Delegates from each of the 13 colonies except Georgia, met in Philadelphia to organize colonial resistance to parliaments acts. They demanded training of the militias also they called for a new boycott of British goods.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concored

    British troops were sent to sieze arms and capture important colonial leaders. An angry militia was waiting for them, the militia defeats 700 British soldiers. This was a major event that lead to the war.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    Most Colonist still did not favor independence after the battles of lexington and concord. The congress chose George Washington as the commander of the newly formed Continental Army. The congress took steps to print paper money to pay for its army.
  • Battle for Fort Ticonderoga

    A band of colonist made a surprise attack on Fort Ticonderoga. They were known as the Green Mountain boys. They wanted the fort because it controlled the main route between Canada and the Hudson river Vally, also it had cannons and other weapons that the Americans needed to match British weapons.
  • Battles of Bunker and Breeds Hill

    The colonist occupied two high points near Charles town. The colonist dug trenches and hid at the top of Bunker Hill. while the British soldiers marched up the hill the colonist would only fire if they were about 150ft away. The colonist lost the third attack due to no ammunition. This did not solve Britain's problem Boston was still surrounded by American forces.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    A letter to King George from the members of the Second Continental Congress to avoid a war of independence against Britain. The petition stated that the colonies were loyal to the king, it also asked George to stop the fighting so all disputes between the colonies could be solved peacefully.
  • Invasion of Quebec

    Benedict Arnold led an army of troops through Maine . Fought between the American Continental Army and British defenders . This was the first major defeat of the war for the Americans.
  • The British Withdraw from Boston

    Washington placed cannons on high ground overlooking Boston. Britian held most of the advantages, they had the most powerful navy in the world. Later on the British strengthened their army by hiring mercenaries.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A group of colonist called The Sons Of Liberty soon organized in port cities to stop the East India company tea. no tea was unloaded in New York, Philadelphia, or other ports. In Boston Thomas Hutchinson made sure the tea was unloaded. This lead to one night on December 16, 1773, a large crowed gathered in the harbor. A large group of men dressed as Native Americans bordered the tea ships and threw 342 cases of tea into the harbor. They destroyed over 90,000 pounds of tea.
