  • Albany Congress

    The British wanted the colonies to agree to cooperate in defending themselves against the French.

    French and the Indian war may of 1756

    In may of 1756 French and the Native Americans were fighting the British,Iroquois,and the colonist.They were fighting over on who had control over the Ohio River Valley. They all fought in North America. At first the french won the war. But later on the British one it all. They controlled the Ohio River valley and took all of the Frenchs land.
  • Treaty of Paris

    When Paris ceded they lost all of there land in North American possessions. They ceded French Canada the East Mississippi and the exception of New Orleans. During this New Orleans and the West Mississippi along with the French territory went to Spain.The N/A lost there land without the help of the french and they could not stop the British settlers from moving onto there lands.

    Pontiac's War

    In may of 1763 Pontiac and his allies attacked British forts and settlements throughout the area.Nearly half a dozen western British forts were destroyed and at least 2000 back country settlers were killed.In 1764 the British finally defeated Pontiac's forces and Pontiac himself.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Britain wanted to avoid further wars with the N/A on the frontier.That is when they made Proclamation of 1763 banned colonial settlement west of a line drawn along the Appalachian mountains .During this it angered many colonist who believed they had the right to reside wherever they wanted.But this proclamation was widely ignored and proved impossible for the British to enforce
  • The sugar Act

    The British effort to impose new taxes on the colonies began in 1764 when parliament passed the sugar act.Which imported taxes on several different products including molasses.It also called for harsh punishment of smugglers.
  • Stamp Act

    In 1765 the Stamp Act required that all colonist buy special tax stamps for all product and activities.The stamps had to be placed on newspaper,wills,licenses,insurance,policies,land titles,contracts,and other documents.In New York,Boston,and Philadelphia boycotted the British good which spreader to every colony.In October the delegates of from nine colonies in New York sent a petition to end the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act.
  • The Quartering Act

    In 1765 Parliament had passed the Quartering Act and its purpose was to save money.To enforce the proclamation of 1763.During this Britain kept about 10000 soldiers in the colonies.The act required colonist to house British troops and provide them with food and other supplies.The colonists protested angrily complained that Parliament was violating their rights.

    In response towards the the incident parliament passed for laws.These harsh laws closed the port of Boston.Two others increased the powers of royal governor, abolished the upper house of the Massachusetts, and cut the town meetings in half.Finally a fourth law strengthened the 1765 quartering act. Parliament also passed the Quebec act which set up a government for the territory from France in 1763.the american colonies reacted by helping each other and pouring food and supplies into Boston.
  • Boston Massacre

    In 1770 Parlariament repealed all the towns duties except the one on tea.In Boston an angry crowd of workers and soldiers surrounded a small group of solders.They shouted at the soldiers and threw snowballs and rocks.The frightened soldiers fired into the crowed killing five and wounded six.All the soliders except two soliders hands were branded while the rest were let go.
  • The tea party

    In 1773 the British parliament passed tea act which was to help the British East India company,one of Britain's most important companies.However the colonial boycott of tea seriously hurt the company.The tea act actually lowered the price of tea by allowing the East company to ship directly to the colonies.Some colonist got angry that the act gave the East India company a monopoly and the monopoly hurt colonial merchants.At this point tea was being smuggled into the colonies.
  • Boston tea party

    A group of colonist called the Sons of Liberty soon organized in port cities to stop the East India company tea to stop unloaded.They threatened the captains who were bringing the tea and the merchants who were willing to buy it.No tea was unloaded in New York,Philadelphia, or other ports.For more than two weeks feelings were tense in Boston finally on the night of December 16 1773 a group of men dressed as N/A destroyed 90000 pounds of tea.
  • Patriots against loyalists

    By 1775 colonist who favored independence were called patriots.Those who remained loyal to Britain were called loyalists.The loyalist came from every colony and all sections of the population.During 1774 and 1775 the patriots took control of local governments.At the same time many enslaved African Americans sided with the British for Freedom.So did most of the Native Americans who feared they would lose their land to the colonist.During the revolution thousands of loyalist left thereown country.
  • The shots heard from around the world

    The British government had no intention of meeting the demands of the first Continental congress. Meanwhile colonist began to arm and form new militias called minutemen.On April 18 1775 he sent 700 troops seize the arms and capture some important colonial leaders.Five miles from concord in Lexington about 77 minute men were waiting for the British.They open fired and killed 8 Americans. Next this time 4000 minute men were waiting and killed almost 300 soiders
  • The Second Continental congress

    As the crisis of Britain deepened the Second Continental congress came together in Philadelphia in May 1775.The delegates included Thomas Jefferson,a young Lawyer from Virginia,Boston merchant John Hancock,and Benjamin Franklin.The congress at first was divided about what to do.A group of delegates from New England wanted to declare independence.A moderate group from the middle colonies favored less drastic action.George Washington the new commander of the continental army.
