Events Leading to the American Revolution Timeline

  • French & Indian War

    1754-1763. Was fought over the Ohio River Valley between the Appalachians Mountains. It was against the French and Indians against the British. Both wanted the same land and the natural resources that came with it. The colonists role in this war was they fought with the French against the British. Britian won the war and they put in a procalmation line for the colonists so they would make sure they wouldn't have land west of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists also got taxes.
  • The Sugar and Stamp Acts

    Sugar 1764. The sugar act set duties, taxes, and sugar imported by colonists. It was designed specifically to raise money in the colonies for the French and Indian war.
    Stamp 1765. The colonists were forced to buy a seal every time they would pay for paper items. It was different it taxed everyday items that affected all the colonists. Patriots responded with boycotts and protests and small riots. The loyalists went by the law. Britain got rid of the acts and then made the Declaratory Act.
  • Townshend Acts

    1767, the acts placed duties on imported glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The Townshend acts used the revenue to pay for the military and the salaries of the governors. The patriots reacted to this by large-scale boycotts of British goods, women made cloth and other nessary goods. They also made the Sons of liberty. Loyalists would have payed the taxes and avoid the patriots. Britain then requested more troops from Britain to restore order.
  • The Boston Massacre

    British troops killed rioting colonists because colonists were outraged cause they were being taxed. Colonists were mad, patriots were killed, the British killed colonists. Loyalists would have went to the patriots or left England. Britain responded with leaving so things could calm down. Paul Revere's engraving was significant because he wanted the colonists look weak and were killed for no reason.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    It was when colonists impersanted the natives and boarded a British ship and threw tea into the harbor. The cause for this was because of the 3 penny tax on 1lb tea. Patriots dumped the tea off the ship. Loyalists told Britian what happened. Britian shut down the harbor of Boston in response to what the Patriots did.
  • The Intolerable Act

    They were acts placed in the 13 colonies that the colonists had to follow for punishment and if they didn't they were arrested. The reason for this was what the colonists did to the tea. The patriots were angered by this and had to do stuff differently. Some loyalists joined the patriots because what Britian was making them do.

    The First Continental Congress

    The Continental Congress was a meeting where 55 delegates from 12 colonies decided on what to do to Britain. The reason for this was Britain gave the colonists the intolerable acts and were concerned on what to do. Patriots gave ideas like to create their on milita. Loyalists gave ideas like outlining their rights as english men. King George then sent more troops to take away weapons from the colonists.
