    The French and Indian war

    The French and Indian war was a war involving Britain and France for control over land in north America. Both sides wanted the natural resources on the land. The colonists and the Indians fought with Britain, while other Indians fought with the French. Overall, Britain won the war and moved all of the indians west of the appalachins with the proclamation line that banned all coloists settling west of the mountain to prevent another war between the colonists and Indians.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was a tax placed on sugar and molasses because Britian needed more money to pay for the standing army protecting the colonists. When the colonists got news of this they boycotted on all things they purchased from Britain. On the other hand the loyalists (people loyal to Britain) didn't complain because they also thought Britain needed more money and were willing to help. In response to the colonists the Parliament passed an act that stated that Britain could pass any law.

    The Townsend Acts were a tax on imported glass, lead, paint, and paper, The tax was there so Britain could pay for the standing army protecting the colonies as well as the salaries of the governors of the colonies. The colonists responded to these taxes by having large scale boycotts, attacks on tax collectors' homes, and forming a violent group called the sons of liberty. While the loyalists went along with the tax In response to these outbursts Britain sent soldiers to create peace in Boston
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was an attack on the colonists over riot because of taxes and the fact that the colonists hated that. At that time loyalists probably defended the soldiers and blamed the colonists for the killing. In response to the killing Britain found two of the soldiers guilty of murder. After the attack Paul revere made an engraving that showed the colonists completely innocent even though that was not the case and the colonists were at fault for rioting in the first place.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea party was a protest in which The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians to not get recognized and then got into British ships and dumped all tea into the harbor they didn't agree with the tax on the tea. The loyalists were angry because Britain lost about 1.7 million dollars worth of tea. In response to this protest Britain brought soldiers to Boston and closed the Boston harbor
  • The Intolerable Act

    The Intoleable Act was a set of five laws put in place to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. Because of this the colonists met in Philadephia to discuss what to do about the act. Some of the loyalists switched to patriots because they saw the way Britain treated the and the colonists, but so were happy because they wanted to see the colonists punished. This increased tension greatly and put the two sides on the brink of war.

    The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress was a six week meeting with 55 delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies. They were sent to discuss the way Britain was treating them. The patriots decided it was best to form militias and fight Britain, but the loyalists thought it was best to stat their rights as Englishmen and to boycott Britain's goods so that's what they did. In response to these actions the king sent his men to take the weapons from the colonists so they couldn't start a war.
