  • The ECSC

    The European Steel and Coal Community was the first union that started the happenings to found the European Union. This union involved Germany, Belgium, France, Holland, Italy and Luxembourg. This union went on to be replaced by many other unions, but at one time different countries wanted this union to rule Europe.

    Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands enter the European Union.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall

    East Germany build a wall across Berlin to try and stop citizens from going into the west. This wall also stopped fascists from entering eastern Germany.   • Common Agricultural Policy

    Common Agricultural Policy

    This policy changed the views for farmers in Europe. The Union made it so the produce being brought in by farmers was joint controlled by all of the countries.   • Agreement with African Countries

    The European Union signs a contract with former African colonies. This agreement was to help these colonies since they were in a poorer state than the countries of the European Union.

  • France Riots

    Students in France and other countries riot against unresponsive governments in different European Union states. These protests were also against the Vietnam war, and the nuclear arms race.

  • Border Trade

    All of the countries in the EU agree on changes the trade customs on the bordering countries. These new customs allow for border trading and importing goods to near by countries. This event changed trading across the entire world.

  • Soviets in Prague

    Soviets send 600,000 soldiers into Prague, Czechoslovakia to change the way they think about democracy. The Czechs and Slovaks do not have many people to fight and will stand down to the Soviets. Students and people are angry about this event.

    Portugal and Spain enter the European Union.
  • European Union finally created

    European Union finally created

    The European Union was created. The EU is a political and economic union between European countries which makes decisions regarding the economy society and law of these countries. The union had been sought after for many years before it was finally developed.     On June 23rd 2016 the United Kingdom voted to leave the EU. The referendum was a vote that was to see if the people of England wanted to stay in the EU or leave. The vote was extremely close, but the people voting to leave won.
