Erikson’s Psychosocial stages.

  • Ryan expects affection

    Ryan expects affection

Ryan (age 2) is the son of Mary and James. Mary would always feed Ryan and give him affection. James would sometimes show affection to Ryan and over time, Ryan shows that he gets confused, anxious around James due to the fact that he doesn't show affection. This would be an example of Erikson's first stage of Trust vs Mistrust. Ryan trusts Mary and mistrusts James.
  • Ryan decision to be in a relationship

Ryan decision to be in a relationship

As time goes by, Ryan becomes the age 24. Have not been in a relationship throughout his life, he starts to question himself on whether or not he will be one day loved by someone or will he live a life isolated and alone. Later on, he meets the love of his life Samantha and has decided to be in a relationship. Both expect to eventually get married down the road. This shows Erik Erikson's stage 6 of Intimacy vs Isolation.
  • Having a family

    Having a family

Ryan and Samantha now have children of two. Both of them are new parents with no experience They struggle to get involved with the children whenever they wanted to show affection. Both of them start to become less productive. They ask their parents how to become better parents. They are overall starting to develop a better relationship within the family. Teaching/mentoring the children on what things are right and wrong. This is an example of Erik Erikson's stage 7 of Generativity vs Stagnation.
