    When the people marched to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, the Tsar's armed forces reacted with gun fire.

  • 1905 Revolution

    The Revolution of 1905 culminated with a series of strikes in October which led to the release several weeks later of the October Manefesto.

  • October Manefesto

    This granted freedom of conscience, speech, meeting and association. He also promised that in future people would not be imprisoned without trial. Finally he announced that no law would become operative without the approval of the State Duma.

  • Stolypin

    Stolypin
    Loyal to the Tsar but also reform minded enought to try to create peasants who could be loyal to the monarchy. Peter Stolypin is seen by some historians as the only person who may have been able to save the Romanov's.
