    A land grant for Rancho de los pulgas ( Ranch of the Fleas), was given to José Darío Argüello, a spanish governer of california. This ranch spaned what is now: Redwood City, Emerald Hills, Belmont, Atherton, Menlo Park, East Menlo Park, San Mateo, San Carlos, and San Francisco.

    In 1822 the Ranch was passed on to Luís Antonio Argüello (Son), First native governer of California.

    In 1830 Luis Antonio Argüello died, and in 1835 the Mexican goverment Granted it to his heirs, his wife moved to the ranch between 1830-1840.

    In the Gold Rush, Simon Mezes was hired to defend the ranchos land, he was paid 15% of their land, he called this land Mezesville, now we know it as Redwood City.

Also the low fog and proxsimity (at the time) was advertized.
