This is a timeline of both the facts and fictional events that take place n the novel. -
Cooter and Elijah discover fatal hoop snakes in their yard. (FICTION)
Cooter and Elijah find weird marks on the ground and get pretty nervous. Then Preacher comes along and said that they were hoop snakes and very deadly. -
Eliajh reaches into the cookie jar and pulls out a huge snake. (FICTION)
Momma said that Elijah could take a cookie, and when Elijah reached in, he pulled out a snake! He freaked out and literally ran two miles! -
Preacher tells Elijah's parents about his wonderful fishing skills. (FICTION)
Preacher watches Elijah fish, and is amazed by his skills. He later told his parents how good Elijah was, but momma and papa didn't really believe him. -
Eliajh finds a injured horse that is rider less horse at midnight. (FICTION)
Elijah wakes up in the middle of night to some weird sounds. He goes outside and sees a bleeding and rider less horse. The rumor is that the riders were killed and Preacher stole their pistol. -
Mr. Travis gets really mad beacause of their misunderstanding. (FICTION)
Cooter tells Elijah that they are having a family breeding contest. Instead, what Mr. Travis wrote was Familiarity Breeding Contempt, so he gets really mad at Cooter. -
Mr. Leroy gets really mad at Elijah. (FICTION)
Elijah's words make Mr. Leroy extremely mad. Elijah gets really scared and starts running into the night. He sees a shadow chasing him and e thinks that it is Mr. Leroy, but it is actually his dad. -
Preacher and Elijah go to a carnival and see Madam Sabbar. (FICTION)
Preacher drags Elijah to a carnival and they watch a lady called Madam Sabbar do some amazing tricks with her slingshot. -
Elijah meets the real Mawee and is really amazed. (FICTION)
When Elijah goes to the carnival, he sees a little boy that works fro Madam Sabbar. When Elijah learns that the little boy is the real Mawee, he is very very shocked. -
Elijah overwhelms Maddam Sabbar in his rock-chunking skills. (FICTION)
The Preacher challenges Madam Sabbar to a race, even though Elijah is reluctant. However, as the race begins, Elijah's rock-chunking skills completely overwhelm Madam Sabbar's slingshot skills. -
The people of Buxton learn about Ms. Holton's husband's death. (FICTION)
Ms. Holton receives a very important letter, but she can't read, so she needs to ask Elijah. Everyone hears from Elijah, and soon they are all crowded in Ms. Holton's house. They later learn that Mr. Holton died. -
The Preacher steals a lot of Mr. Leroy's money. (FICTION)
Preacher and Mr. Highgate went to Michigan together to buy Mr. Leroy's family out of slavery. Suddenly, Preacher started acting all weird and injured Mr. Highgate real bad. After he did that, he ran away with all the money. -
Mr. Leroy dies. (FICTION)
Mr. Leroy and Elijah ride really hard to get the money back, but soon, after too much riding, Mr. Leroy falls down dead, and Elijah is alone to track down Preacher. -
Elijah is heartbroken by the sight of some slaves. (FICTION)
When Elijah goes into a farm, he finds some slaves chained to the floor and scared. He is very heartbroken, for he finally realizes what his parents suffered before they were free in Buxton. -
Elijah brings home a slave's baby called Hope. (FICTION)
Elijah talks to the slaves in the rusty farm, and soon is convinced to bring home the one of the slave's baby, Hope. The slave wants Elijah to ask is mom to adopt her, so she can live a happy and free life. -
Lincoln issues the Emacipation Proclamation (REAL)
On January 1st, 1863, President Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation. All the slaves that are in the South are now free and can start a free life. -
The South surrenders to the North and the Civil War is over. (REAL)
On November 8th, 1864, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant. Now, after 4 years of fighting, one of the bloodiest wars in U.S. history is over. -
President Abraham Lincoln is re-elected as president. (REAL)
On November 8th, 1864, Lincoln is re-elected as President of the United States of America. He promised to bring the country back together. A few months after his re-election, the Confederates collapsed. -
President Lincoln is assinated. (REAL)
On April 9th, 1855, President Abraham Lincoln was watching a play when John Wilkes Booth shot him. The whole nation was shocked by this blow because Lincoln was an amazing president. -
The Civil Rights Act is passed. (REAL)
On December 6th, 1865, the Civil Rights Act is passed, so now all African Americans have the same exact rights as white males.
