    Potential Candidates debate with each other about trending topics, such as health care, abortion, etc. Also, candidates start campaigns and fundraisers throughout the country to gain support and money to run for office.
  • Cauacuses

    Cauacuses
    A caucus is similar to a town meeting in many ways. Average citizens and political leaders meet in a gymnaisum or a place like that and vote on many things. These include voting on candidates, what the candidates will use as public policy, etc.
  • Primaries

    Primaries are straight up elections basically. There are 6 types
    1. Open- You dont have to be in a certain party to vote. Can be independent.
    2.Closed- Limited to only people registered as Democrats or Republicans. No independents allowed.
    3.Semi-open- Choose a party specific ballot beforehand.
    4.Semi-closed- registered must vote for their party, but allow independents.
    5.Blanket-Gen. Election between top 2 runners
    6.Run-off- Top 2 candidates advance to general election, regardless of party.
  • Party Conventions

    Each party(including the minor parties) announces their presidential nominee. These candidates give speeches, then start campaigning again afterwards.
  • Election Day

    Takes place the FIRST Tuesday after the first Monday of November. We vote for president. There are voting booths all over the place so we can get in as many votes as possible.
  • Electoral College

    Although our votes have an impact on the college's votes, we truly do not matter. We could all vote for Romney, but th ecollege votes for Obama and he would win the presidency. Each state is split into a bunch of districts that have 1 vote. All the districts create the electoral college.
