    The Egyptian Revolution also known as the lotus revolution began on the 25th of January 2011.This happened due a Tunisian inspired demonstration to demand the end of Hosni Mubarak’s nearly 30 years in power.     On this day, the military removed Mubarak from power and took power directly in its hands. And earlier in the day, masses of protesters had descended on the state television building in Cairo and the presidential palace in Heliopolis, as well as in Tahrir Square.

    Security Forces beat protesters and tear down their tents. The Muslim Brotherhood, which had united in Tahrir Square to unseat Mubarak, stays largely quiet now.

The army uses physical force to break up a protest in Tahrir Square which was calling for a swift transfer to civilian rule, the first major event of the military suppressing peaceful protest in the post-Mubarak era. Around 150 men and women protesters are ultimately tried and convicted in military courts, and sent to military prisons.
