Ecuador and Peru both wanted possession of the Amazon Basin. On July 21,1924 both Ecuador and Peru signed the Ponce-Castro Oyanguren Protocol. They would directly negotiate and then allow the United States to aid in resolving any conflicting arguments.

The terms of the protocol agreed to withdraw the standing claims for the rights to redirect the land access to the Amazon River.

On this day elections were held under a new constitution and president Jaime Roldós Aguilera was elected. He had a record-breaking 1 million votes.

Cuenca is the largest train transportation system in Ecuador. On April 8th it was inaugurated.

A couple days before October 10 protest had started about the end of fuel subsides. On October 10, 2019 protesters overran the capitol Quito causing the government to relocate to Guayaquil.
