  • Council for Exceptional Children

    This advocacy group was established for disabled children and is one of the larges groups of this type. Their goal is to enforce the laws that help students with special needs.
  • First Center for Independent Living Opens

    This center was opened by Ed Roberts. He wanted disabled people to be able to live somewhere outside of institutions.
  • The Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    This act helped children with physical and/or mental disabilities. This act required schools that accepted federal funding to educate these children equally to them as they did other children. This act made sure that special education services are available, made decisions were made fairly, made sure education was managed correctly and audited, and provided funding for students with disabilities.
  • NC State host the Russian National Team

    The NC State women's team scored more points against the Russian team than any other team on their tour in America. Although the pack did lose 109-79.
  • Irving Independent Sch. Dist. v. Amber Tatro

    This court case had to do with cleaning catheters. They ruled that this was a "related service" not a "medical service" due to the fact that it had to be done in order for the student to go to school. This was determined because cleaning a catheter did not have to be done by a medical professional.
  • Coach Yow's 250th win

    NC State women's basketball Coach Yow's team beats Georgia Teach 77-69. This made Coach Yow's 250th win as coach.
  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

    This act required public schools to IEPs for students with disabilities, made sure all students were educated in the least restrictive environment to them, made sure had the opportunity to be educated freely, appropriately, and publically, made sure students had safeguards for their rights of being educated, made sure students with disabilities were evaluated properly, and made sure the student, teachers, staff, and parents were all involved in creating a student's IEP.
  • Florence County School District Four v. Shannon Carter

    This case had to do with the amount of money parents of a disabled child could get for sending their child to get private education. They ruled that since the private school doesn't have to meet state education standards that then it also doesn't have to meet the free appropriate public education either.

    The ACC single-season record of 92.9% free-throw shooting was set by Jennifer Howard.

    The Assistive Technology Act

    This act ensures that 60 percent of funds go towards assistive technology programs for students with disabilities. These include state financing activities, device reutilization programs, device loan programs, and device demonstration programs. This act provides each state with a grant to fund these assistive technologies.
  • Retired Women's Basketball Jerseys

    NC State Women's Basketball jerseys were retired for the first class in school history.
  • Coach Yow's 1000th career game

    NC State women's basketball beat Dartmouth 78-43 at home for Coach Yow's 1000th career game. Coach Yow became only the fourth NCAA Division I basketball coach to claim 1000 games.
  • Jacob Winkelman v. Parma City School District

    This case had to do with parents' claims under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. They ruled that parents can pursue their own claims on their child's behalf.
