The code of Hammurabi took place in 1750 BCE. It was one of the earliest records of law written down. There are nearly 300 laws carved in stone. Since the laws were written down when someone would break them they would recieve harsh punishments.

The Mosaic laws were given to the Hebrew people. Moses is said to been given law by God. They called the 10 commandments and they were carved on stone. Restition was practiced under this law.

The Byzahtine Emperor Justinian codified 1000 years of Roman Law. They emphasized equality under the law.

France conquarded England. The land was divided among the nobles. The lord got servents who would judge laws. They then began overlooking cases which then lead to what is currently known as common laws in England.

This was a document made after King John of England abused his power. It included rule of law: All people, rulers, and commoners must follow the same laws. It introduced Habeas Corpus which lead to the people must be brought to court to decied if they should be legally obtained.

English nobility wanted more power which lead King John iii to challenge them. The first parliament was created and their job was to pass on laws. Then they also began writting down the laws for the public to read.

The Napoleonic code AKA the French Civil Code. Napoleonic code was in control of most of Europe at this time and because of this most of Europe followed his model.
