    The Code of Hammurabi

    The Code of Hammurabi happened in 1750 BCE. It is one of the earliest records of law written down. Since laws were written down for people they would get punished for breaking the law. It was harsh punishment.
  • 1240 BCE

    Mosaic Law

    the mosaic laws were given to the Hebrew people. Moses is said to been to given law by God. They were called the 10 commandments and they were carved on stone. Restitution was practiced under this law.

    Justinian Law

    The Byzantine Emperor Justinian codified 1000 years of Roman Law. They emphasized equality under the law.

    Feudal System

    France conquered England. The land was divided among the nobles. the lord got servents who would judge laws. They then began overlooking cases, which lead to what is currently known as common laws in England.
  • 1245

    Moana Carta

    this was a document made after King John of England abused his powers. it introduced the rule of law: all people, rulers, and commoners must follow the same laws. it introduced Habeas Corpus which lead to s person must be brought to court to decide if they are legally obtained.
  • 1265

    Parliament and Statue Law

    English nobility wanted more power which led to King Henry iii challenging them. the first parliament was created and to get a job where you needed to pass laws. they began writing down laws for the public to read.
  • Napoleonic Code

    The Napoleonic code is also known as the French Civil Code. Napoleon was in control of most of Europe at this time and because of that most of Europe followed that model.
