Events spanning from the French and Indian War to the Reconstruction Era -
French and Indian War
Also known as the "Seven Years War" it was fought by the British, the French and the American Indians. The end of the war resulted in the Treaty of Paris and ultimately gave more land to the British. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ended the Seven Years’ War.
It was the Treaty that gave Britain all its land in the New World and allowed them to keep expanding. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was enacted to raise money to support the British Army that was stationed in America.
It was one of the first things in a line of events that would lead to the Revolution. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an unplanned killing of some protesting Americans. The protesters closed in on some British soldiers who, in turn, fired into the crowd killing three people.
This is important to American History because it led up to the start of the Revolutionary War. -
Boston Tea Party
A protest staged by the Sons of Liberty, a group that opposed taxation without representation, in which they dumped tea over the side of cargo ships. This action was in response to Great Britains' Tea Act.
This event is important to history because it helped spark the fuse that led up to the Revolutionary War. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were British laws which the American colonists strongly opposed. They were made to punish the people of Massachusetts for destroying the tea that they threw into Boston Harbor during the Boston Tea Party.
However they backfired on Britain and became an important force in uniting the 13 Colonies against Britain. -
Signing of the Declaration of Independence
A document written mainly by Thomas Jerfferson that states that America is seperating itself from Britain.
This is one of the most important documents in the history of America. -
Articles of Confederation
This was a failed form of government that would lead up to the Constitution.
This is important because it allowed the Constitution to be written so that it would not have the same pitfalls as this document did. -
Constitution Signed
The Constititution states the laws for our country.
It is important because it gives us rules for how our country is to be run. Without it, we would be living in anarachy. -
George Washington elected president
George Washington was the first president of the United States, his vice president was John Adams.
This is important in history because George Washington was the first president of the United States. -
Washington D.C. is made capital of the United States
Washington dc was made the capital of the United states.
This is important because it is currently still the capital of the US. -
Whiskey Rebellion
The Whiskey Rebellion was started as a result of a United States tax on whiskey makers.
It tested the power of the state and federal governments and showed that the Government could handle such problems. -
Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a transaction in which the United States acquired a very significant amount of land from the French, for a low price.
This is important to history because it helped America extend its land by a large amount. -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
Lewis and Clarks expedition was set up by the US government to discover what the land of the Louisiana Purchase was like.
It is important in history because it helped find a route to the Pacific Ocean which would later be used for trade. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise was a document that was used to balance out the number of slave and non slave states in the land that was gained in the Louisiana Purchase.
It is important to US History beacuse it was one of the disputed factors that led up to the Civil War. -
Erie Canal
The Erie Canal is a waterway that connects the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean which allows for easier trade.
This is important to history because it allowed people to move around the country easier and increased trade. -
Trail of Tears
The trail of tears was the forced removal of many different Indian tribes because white settlers wanted to mine the gold in the area.
This is important because it started what was really the first indian reservations in America. -
Mexican American War
The Mexican American War was fought over disputed land that would later become California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and a few other states.
It allowed the United States to again ex\pand her territory. -
Civil War
The bloodiest war fought on American soil. It pitted brothers against each other.
This is important to history because depending upon who won the war America would have changed drastically. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation is a document that led to the end of slavery. It was written by Abraham Lincoln.
It is important to history because it helped to end slavery in the US. -
Gettysburg Address
The Gettysburg address is one of the most famous speeches in American History. It was orated by Abraham Lincoln in the memory of the fallen soldiers from the battle of Gettysburg.
This is important in history because it promoted equality among men and American Pride. -
13th Amendment
This amendment abolished slavery.
This is important to history because it literally got rid of slavery and freed the enslaved people in America. -
14th Amendment
This amendment was passed to grant equality to all US citizens.
It is important because it allows everyone to be treated equal no matte their race sex or religion. -
Transcontinental Railroad
A railroad that spans across most or all of a country.
This is important to American History because it allowed trade to travel even faster and it also allowed for mass migration across the United States. -
Reconstruction Ends
This is a time in American history that ended up forming many new Amendments and gave rights to freed slaves.
This is important because it basically was, as the name states, the reconstruction of the southern states.
