    The U.S prevented a terrorist attack in Boston and found that the suspect had connected with ISIS propaganda on social media. ISIS had used social media to send thousands of message to gain sympathy for their cause some of these interactions occurred on the dark web.

    The Internet Research Agency based in Saint Petersburg created thousands of social media profiles that posed as Americans supporting radical groups. They planned for and promoted events in favor of Trump.

    After the wide spread sexual abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein in October the movement began to spread on social media. It was spread by using the hashtag #metoo as a way to visually represent solidarity and how many women have been sexually harassed. A number of American celebrities participated in the movement.

    Within the same year of the Me Too Movement the thousands gathered around the world to participate in the Women's March. The movement was acknowledged worldwide. In America, the main march happened in Washington D.C in response to some comments from President Trump. On social media the hashtag #womensmarch was used to unite those who support or participate in the movement. A social media campaign "10 Actions for the first 100 Days" was launched to keep up the momentum after the march.

Several social media campaigns have sprung from this situation like Black Out Tuesday. Protests were organized and images from those events have circulated online sparking conversation about racism in the United States.
