  • Serviceman's Readjustment Act of 1944

    Serviceman's Readjustment Act of 1944

    Better known as the GI Bill of Rights, this legislation provided financial benefits for returning veterans enrolling at colleges. Many returning vets had disabilities.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973

    Established that "No otherwise qualified handicapped individual in the United States shall, solely by reason of his handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
  • Education of All Handicapped Children Act

    Better known today as IDEA, this law required special education services and individualized programs for students with disabilities in K-12. The supports provided opened the door for many students with disabilities to pursue higher education.
