    Columbus discovered America.

    Columbus discovered America.
    Christopher decided to sail off on 3 ships, The Pinta, The Nina, and The Santa Maria, he sailed across the Pacific Ocean hoping to find a route to India. He soon realized that the Earth as round and he found himself in America! On the trip home, the Santa Maria ship wrecked and the captain of the Pinta sailed off trying to beat Columbus back. *Without this happening, America may still not have been found. Or it could have been found by a bad person. America could of been used for bad.
  • Jamestown was founded.

    Jamestown was founded.
    About 100 English colonists arrive along the west bank of James River in Virginia to find Jamestown. The first permanent English settlement in North America. During the next 2 years, disease, starvation, and Mative American attacks wiped out most of the colony. This is important because it brought us the pilgrims.

    Slavery
    A Dutch slave trader exchanged his cargo of Africans for food. The Africans became indentured servants, similar in legal position to many poor Englishmen who traded several years of labor in exchanged for passage in America. The popular conception of a racial based slave system did not develop until the 1680’s.
    This is important because it was the start of slavery.

    Tea is introduce to the colonies.
    First sold in apothecaries and a few coffeehouses, the acceptance of tea into British culture was relatively slow. In 1667 Thomas Garraway, the owner of a coffeehouse known as Garraway's, was one of the first to serve tea. According to Garraway's advertisements tea in Britain had only been used as a "regalia in high treatments." He advertised it as a medicinal drink, capable of curing almost anything, and charged £6 to £10 for a pound.
    Without this there wouldnt of been a Boston Tea Party.

    The French and Indian War was fought to decide which of Britain or France would become the stronger power in North America. The war began with conflicts about land.France had sent traders and trappers to these territories and had established trading centers there.
    This is important because this war was the start of America.

    British soldiers fought against French soldiers and Native Americans. Native Americans joined in the battle against the British because they were afraid the British would take over their land.
    This is important this was a very important war.
  • First medical school

    The first medical school to be founded in the United States was at the College of Philadelphia (now University of Pennsylvania) in 1765. John Morgan of Philadelphia, who obtained a medical degree abroad, persuaded the trustees to establish a medical school and appoint him as professor. The school opened in 1766 with three professors.
    This is important because it made people experienced and it saved lives.

    Four workers shot by British troops in Boston The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a "patriot" mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. Several colonists were killed and this led to a campaign by speech-writers to rouse the ire of the citizenry.
    *We thought this was important because it was another reason why we ended up having a war with the british.

    Townshend duties are repealed except for the tax on tea.
    On the evening when the Boston massacre occurred in 1770, Lord North asked leave of the British House of Commons to bring in a bill for repealing the duties on certain articles mentioned in Hillsborough's circular, but retaining a duty of three per cent on tea. This was a small tax--a very small burden--a mere "pepper-corn rent," avowedly to save the national honor. The proposition found very little favor from either party.
    It started the Boston Tea Party.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a direct action by colonists in Boston, against the British government and the monopolistic East India Company that controlled all the tea coming into the colonies. After officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor.
    The incident remains an iconic event of American history.

    The Declaration of Independence was approved at the Second Constitutional Congress. The Declaration of Independence introduced a fundamental change in the view of government. Thomas Jefferson declared that governments were created to serve the people, and could only act with consent of the people. It created the democratic government.
    *This is important because it made the world more peaceful.

    Jefferson asks Congress for funds for an expedition to explore the Mississippi River and beyond in search of a route to the Pacific. Meriwether Lewis, Jefferson's private secretary, begins planning the expedition, which forms late in 1803. *We thought this was important because this was a huge addition to America.

    The American war declaration, opposed by a sizable minority in Congress, had been called in response to the British economic blockade of France, the induction of American seaman into the British Royal Navy against their will, and the British support of hostile Indian tribes along the Great Lakes frontier.
    This is important because it changed the world.

    The United States Civil War was a monumental event that shaped American history. Taking place between the years of 1861-1865, the American Civil War battles were fought on US soil, mostly in the Southern states. The American Civil War was one of the most deadliest wars in US history. However, the American Civil War ended the issue of slavery as well as giving the United States Government more power and control over the country. *We thought this was important because this was a huge war

    The Great Depression was an economic slump in North America, Europe, and other industrialized areas of the world that began in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. It was the longest and most severe depression ever experienced by the industrialized Western world.
    This is important because this changed the world.

    the first of two airlines struck the World Trade Center in New York, in the first of a series of coordinated terrorist attacks on the United States.
    Death:After being placed on the FBI's Most Wanted list, bin Laden remained in hiding during three U.S. presidential administrations. On May 2, 2011, bin Laden was shot and killed inside a private residential compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. This is important Bin Laden changed the US.

    First black President-Barack Obama, a 47-year-old first-term senator from Illinois, shattered more than 200 years of history Tuesday night by winning election as the first African-American president of the United States.
    This is important becuase some people werent to happy about having a black president.
  • Lewis and Clark.

    Lewis and Clark.
    The expedition was led by Meredith Lewis and Willaim Clark, they were accompanied by a fifteen yearold Indian Woman named Sacagewea. the expedition had several goals, to study the area's plants, animal life, and geography, and to discover how the region could be exploited economically. One goal was to find a "direct & practicable water communication across this continent.
    *This is important because the Lewis and Clark Expedition was the first United States expedition to the Pacific Coast.

    In 1902 they came to the beach with their glider and made more than 700 successful flights.Having perfected glided flight, the next step was to move to powered flight. No automobile manufacturer could supply an engine both light enough and powerful enough for their needs. So they designed and built their own. All of their hard work, came together that December day as they took to the sky and forever changed the course of history.

    World War I (1914-1918) was finally over. This first global conflict had claimed from 9 million to 13 million lives and caused unprecedented damage. Germany had formally surrendered on November 11, 1918, and all nations had agreed to stop fighting while the terms of peace were negotiated.
    *It was important because this was a very important war and it changed the earth.
