    Thaumatrope
In 1824, Dr. Peter Mark Roget invented Thaumatrope. Thaumatropes were the first optical illusions that were used to study the persistence of vision. To make a Thaumatrope you use a cardboard and a string. You draw two different images on the cardboard and connect them using a string. In order to get the illusion you have to spin it, the faster it is spun the better the image is.
