  • Benidorm

    In 1952 the mayor of Benidorm appealed to General Franco to lift the bikini ban to increase inbound tourism. Furthermore, in 1966 Alicante airport opened up meaning Benidorm's tourist level increased dramatically.
  • Butlin's

    Monorail introduced to Skegness, along with chairlifts and a pool with underwater viewing windows. This made Butlin's more accessible for families.
  • Road

    Traffic signs were introduced and was immediately effective meaning for tourism today is improved due to tourists be able to realise where their destination was and how to get there, also it means that roads became safer and less incidents.
  • Development of tourism act

    This act led to the creation of tourist boards such as visit Britain, this allowed the UK to advertise itself more meaning more tourists wish to travel to the UK. Also the act gave more money to various tourist boards.
  • Lifting of currency restrictions

    Before the 70's people was only allowed to take out £50 per person, this meant in the 70's more people was choosing to go on package holidays so they do not have to buy add on's whilst they are away. Nowadays, there is no limit to how much people can take out meaning more money can be put back into communities
  • All inclusive

    In the 70's a tour operator called; Club Med liked the idea of creating an inclusive holiday. In the 80's a man called John Issa began to run inclusive holidays for singers, where as nowadays all inclusive holidays is available for anyone.
  • Teletext

    The service allowed people to start booking holidays away from travel agents. The first teletext was Ceefax, which was started by the BBC.This affected tourism due to the fact it allowed people to book their trips away from travel agents leading to today where holidays can be booked using smart phones.
  • Dubai

    In the 80's Dubai decided to emerge as a major tourist destination. This meant that the local area became covered with high rise hotels, including the only 7 star hotel called the Burj Al Arab. Due to this hotel people expect high end luxury throughout Dubai
  • Channel Tunnel

    The tunnel first opened on the 6th may 1994, with the tunnel been 31.4 miles long. The tunnel links the UK with France this allows tourists to get to the UK at a cheaper price and a lot quicker than using an airplane.
  • Trip Advisor

    The website was set up to advise and recommend specific destinations for people based upon previous experience. In 2016, over 280 million people use the website.
  • Pensions

    The first state pension in the UK was the 'old age pension' which was passed in 2008.
