  • Convention of 1800

    a treaty between the U.S. and France to settle the hostilities that were caused by the Quasi-War. (Wouldn't allow just the year so that is why it says November 12th.)
  • Louisiana Purchase

    A purchase by the U.S. from France of the Louisiana Territory in 1803. President Jefferson ordered the purchase negotiations, fearing that the French wanted to establish an empire in North America.
  • Embargo Act

    A law passed by Congress and signed by President Jefferson on December 22, 1807 that prohibited American ships from trading in all foreign ports.

    Principle of US policy by President Monroe that states that any intervention by external powers in the politics of the Americas is a potentially an act of aggression against the U.S. (Wouldn't allow just a year.)
