  • Physical Developmental Milestones

    *12-18 months-turns pages in a book, picks up small objects with thumb and forefinger
    *18-24 months-walks well, jumps in place
    *2-2 1/2 years-stacks six blocks, jumps off the bottom step
    *2 1/2-3 years-screws lids on and off containers,runs but may not be able to stop amoothly
    *3-4 years-cuts with scissors, catches a ball with arms straight
  • Self Feeding

    *One-Year-Olds--Children at this age eat a variety of foods. Finger foods, such as slices of banana.
    *Two-Year-Olds--Children at this age group can usually feed themsevles and learn to use a fork, but they often take long to eat.
    *Three-Year-Olds--By age three, most children are quite skillful using a spoon and fork.

    *1 year-Plays alone but often near others,dislikes sharing toys,desires approval, fear some strangers.
    *2 years-Engages in parallel play, plays simple games with others,bosses other children, says "please" if prompted.
    *3 years-Takes part in brief group activities (cooperative play), takes turn, likes to help, shows affection.
  • Piaget's Four Periods of Learning

    *Incidental learning is unplanned learning.
    *Trail-and-error learning take place when a child tries several solutions before finsing one that works.
    *Imitation is learning by watching and copying others.
    *Directed learning is learning that results from being taught, often by parents, other caregivers, teachers, or older siblings.
  • Intellectual Developmental Milestones

    *1 year-Begins to put two words together, names common objects and people, understands "no" but ignores, finds hidden objects.
    *2 years-Uses two-to three-word sentences, knows about 500 words, follows simple directions, identifies colors.
    *3 years-Uses longer sentences, knows about 900 words, follows two-partt directions, sorts by color and shape.
