    At the end of the American Civil War in 1865 ushered in an era of increased education and employment oppertunities for black American. In 1896, racial equality was delivered a crushing blow when the Plessy V, Ferguson Surpreme Court case declared racial segregation to be constitution acceptable. African-Americans began mpving to Harlem between 1900 and 1920 the number of blacks in New York City neighborhood doubled.

    Why people moved to Harlem

    Another reason people moved to Harlem was because in 1904 several middleclass African American families moved away from the decaying conditions of Black Bohemia of midtown into the newly-built suburb of Harlem. Harlem was all over the world and not just one place.
