    The Confederate troops fired on ort Sumter in South Carolina.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    This was the first major land battle of the Civil War. General Irvin McDonnell (union) leads his troops towards the Confederate capital of Richmon, Virginia. They are blocked by General P.G.T Beauregard of the Confederate army. The Union had the upper hand at first, but the Confederate army prevailed and won. https://youtu.be/9d71FUSjKt0
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Union army planned to take an important Confederate east-west railway hub in northern Mississippi. Ulysses S. Grant and Don Carlos Buell planned to meet up and unit in the fight. Grant got there first and was surprise attacked by the Confederate troops. Once Buell's forces arrived they attacked together and the Union won.
  • Battle of Antietam

    The Confederate Army comes to the North under Robert E. Lee. The Union army found out about his plans and marched to confront the force at Antietam Creek. The battle ended in a draw with 23,000 men killed, this was the most deadly in any battle in the Civil War. Lincoln announced the Emancipation Proclamation after.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Union General Ulysses S. Grant led an army south to take VIcksnurg Mississippi and take Mississipi as the Unions. This was a long battle May 22- July 4 of 1863, the Union won and their victory was the turning point in the war for the Union.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Robert E Lee. and the Confederate army attempted to take the North again. This time they were stopped and the Union army won and stopped the invasion but they still failed to completely defeat Lee and the Confederate army. Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address after.
  • End of Civil War

    Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse
