This is an unknown battle to many people. It was of big significance because it was such a loss for the United States. Almost half of the U.S. army was killed in this defeat. I would also say it is significant because it changed the Army completely leading to a reorganization.

The Indians had prepared an ambush for the Americans but it had the opposite result when scouts realized what is was for and the Americans eventually overcame and defeated the Indians here.
