  • The HMS Beagle Launch

    This is the day that Darwin embarks on the HMS Beagle for his Voyage
  • Cape Verde Islands

    In January of 1832 Charles Darwin lands in the Cape Verde Islands and makes his first observations.
  • Crossing of the Equator

    In February the HMS Beagle, Darwin states that he has been shaved against his will.
  • Brazil

    In February Darwin lands in Brazil. He notes on the extravagance of the vegetation as well as the novelty of the parasites, and the beauty of the flowers.
  • Punta Alta

    In September, Darwin lands in Punta Alta and finds many interesting fossils and notes on his luck in finding fossils on his journey.
  • Tierra Del Fuego

    In December of 1832 the HMS Beagle lands in Tierra Del Fuego. Here Captain FitzRoy attempts to start a christian mission, but ultimately fails.
  • Falkland Islands

    In March of 1833 Darwin he lands on the Falkland Islands which he says are Desolate and Wretched. He finds fossils of two shelled animals which used to be some of the most common animals.
  • Rio Negro

    In August of 1833 they touch down in Rio Negro, Argentina. Here Darwin explores the lowlands and explores with the Natives.
  • Chiloe Island

    During this time Darwin watches Mount Osorno erupt from the Chiloe Islands. Afterwards he notes that the earthquake from the eruption degraded the island more than 100 years of natural wear and tear.
  • Galapagos Islands

    Between the periods of September and October of 1835, Darwin was on the Galapagos Islands. While on the Galapagos Islands Darwin makes very important notes on the processes of evolution that he finds along the various islands. It starts with the base breed of a finch and it goes on to show how each of the island has finches that have adapted to the environment of their islands.
  • Sydney Australia

    In January of 1836, Darwin lands in Sydney Australia and celebrates that he is an english man as he is proud of what they have created in Australia.
  • Cocos Islands

    In April he visits the Cocos Islands to study various formations of coral reefs.
  • Mauritius

    In May of 1836 Darwin visits Mauritius where he takes a walk along the beach and observes the plains and towns of Mauritius.
  • South America

    At this point in the journey Darwin is feeling homesick as well as seasick and is eager to be back home. Although he admits that he discovers many wondrous creatures in South Africa.
  • Home!

    In October of 1836 Darwin reaches home. He says that his head is quite confused with so much delight.
  • Cape Town South Africa

    In June of 1836 they reach South Africa and Darwin notes on the large amount of Bullock Wagons.
