Dangers of alcohol, tobacco, opiates, and other drugs among teens

  • Drug addiction

    Often teens tend to get a drug addiction to either one certain substance or multiple. “ addiction is a brain disease that affects multiple brain circuits...” (pg. 7) once someone has an addiction it can be hard for them to stop. It’s more of a long term goal to help someone achieve.
  • Brain on drugs

    When you have drugs in your system the chemicals inside your brain disrupt the way your nerve cells normally sends information. It tends to imitate the brains natural chemical messengers.
  • Treatment

    There are ways to help. One way would be by withdraw. There are medications that help with the symptoms that come along, but that’s just the beginning of the process to become clean. Another way would be to reach out to behavioral treatment centers where people are able to stay from 6-12 months.

    Teens background

    There are many reasons why some teens tend to try drugs. One of the reasons would be because other people in their family do it and it influences them too. Another reason could be that they feel alone and drugs are like a depressant so it helps teens “loosen up.” Alcohol is a big one. Many don’t think of it as a drug so they their intake is huge which could lead to big problems later on, possibly death.
